You can upgrade to the latest version of Ubuntu from your existing distribution in two ways:
  1. Using GUI
  2. Using Command-line interface
To upgrade using the Graphical user interface, follow these steps:
Open Softwares & updates in System settings. In the Updates tab, turn on the notification for release of new ubuntu versions.



  1. Run update-manager. The update-manager will tell you about the latest release i.e. Ubuntu 15.04.
  2. Click upgrade and follow the instructions shown by the update manager.
To upgrade using the command line interface, type the following command in your terminal
Now, your system will check for the updates and upgrade your system to the latest release of Ubuntu


And after downloading and upgrading all the packages, you will get the latest version.



If you want to upgrade your system to any new ubuntu version which is still in developmental phase, you can add a flag to the above command like this:
